My autonomy
is a barrier to employment

This post is a work in progress. Publishing it now invites you into the artist’s thinking and crafting process. Even in draft form, this writing represents a valuable source of knowledge and inspiration. Even if it remains unfinished, it amounts to valuable content. Check-in regularly to catch any updates.

For over a decade now, I have worked independently as a member of tbC, an artist-run initiative based in suburban Melbourne, Australia. tbC is an egalitarian, self-governing collaborative art space. The autonomy that defines this practice model has granted me life-changing freedoms, opportunities and experiences - ones I am reluctant to give up. However, tbC is coming to a natural conclusion, and I am looking for new creative employment. The problem is employers are often wary, even intimidated, by this autonomous work history.
